Pray for Everybody Who Influences Your Children

 

Let's face it, most children are at school or daycare for an average of 9 hours a day.  They spend on average 10 hours a day sleeping and eating. Factoring in mid-week church, after school activities, and homework, parents have less than 5 hours a day to influence their children.

Doesn’t it seem reasonable and sensible to spend time in prayer for those who are influencing your children? I have found such truth and strength in accepting the village to help train my children.  God has blessed each child with a village of partners. 

Somewhere along the way the parenting message has been misinterpreted.  Parents, especially mothers, believe every part of the training of their child is their responsibility.  It is true you have been chosen to effectively manage their training.  But it is also true that the village must be allowed to fulfill their purpose in the training. 

Each pastor, Sunday school teacher, musician, coach, teacher, administrator, cafeteria worker, bus driver, business owner, and the list goes on, has a specific role in partnering with you to train your child.  God chose these partners before your child was born. 

Understand that you will not like every member of the partnership.  God’s goal is not for you to like all the partners.  His goal is for your child to mature in the partnership.  It takes partners you like as well as the ones you don’t like to mature your child. If your child only experienced the good in life, they would crumble when pressure comes. 

Pray for those who partner with you in influencing your child for maturity in Christ.

1.   Praise God for choosing the persons who will partner with you   in training your child for an abundant life.

2.   Praise God for the institution in which the partnership will flourish.

3.   Ask God to help you trust His decision for the partnership.

4.   Ask God to help you share the training responsibilities with the persons assigned to your child.

5.   Ask God to allow the time your child spends with any person in the partnership to be positive.

6.   Ask God to help your child find favor with the partners He chose.

7.   Thank the Lord for His grand plan.

8.   Thank the Lord for enlarging your child’s territory and stretching their possibilities.

9.   Thank the Lord for this partnership which will mature them for future success.

10.         Thank the Lord for allowing you to be the parent in the partnership.

Viewing the influencers in your child’s life as partners sent from God should assist you in valuing their contribution.  Each person is an asset that should be appreciated. When God adds a partner to your family portfolio, the dividends are His reward.

Love Speaks When it Allows Others to be Right

The old saying, “Hind sight is 20/20”, simply means we are better equipped to handle an event after the event has occurred.  Many times we could not see nor understand all that was involved in a decision.  God has placed many wise people in our lives in order to reveal His wisdom in all things.  We chose not to listen nor consider the counsel of others because within ourselves we want to be right.

The blessing in allowing someone else to be right is you get the whole picture. Solomon wrote in Proverbs 1: 5, “A wise person will listen and continue to learn, and an understanding person will gain direction.” You are considered wise when you choose to listen and act upon the counsel God sends.

Love speaks when it chooses to give up its right to be right.  This is empowering and relieving.  You no longer have to carry the burden of having the right answer at all times. 

Love speaks when you choose to seek after righteousness rather than pursuing being right in man’s eyes.   

We are considered righteous through Christ.  To be righteous is to align your actions and thoughts to walk in the virtues of Christ.  Being right does not always glorify Christ but being righteous seeks to glorify Christ and build His kingdom.

An example of this is you have a right to drink as much alcohol as you want if you are of legal age but the righteous virtues of Christ instructs His followers not to be drunk with wine.

You have the right to use profanity, indulge in sexual immorality and be rude, but the righteous virtues of Christ instruct us to abstain from all manners of evil workings of the flesh.

Love speaks when it trades its rights for the righteousness of Christ.

Love Speaks

Allowing Christ’s love to speak through you will take courage.  Courage is to know what is right and then do it.  Each day we are given courageous opportunities to display the love of Christ to others.  When we are standing in a line that seems not to advance as quickly as other lines, courage to love will resist the urge to complain but rather find something that is going right to share with the person behind you who is complaining.

Imagine what Paul meant when he wrote to the Corinthians, “Love is patient, love is kind.” He has attributed human characteristics to the verb love.  Love actions flow with human contributions.  Patience and kindness will naturally flow from us, when we manifest God’s amazing agape love to others.

Patience is to be capable of enduring without giving up.  “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t; either way you are right. – Henry Ford” Paul has revealed to us that living a life that is pleasing to the father begins with thinking and acting out of His love. 

This is precisely what God offers us through His son Jesus, and we are to offer the world through our changed life in Him.  Love cares more for others than it does for itself.  When we allow God’s love to speak through us we are absolutely transformed into His living testament to the world.

The revealed secret of God’s endurance and generosity is Us.
